GolfBuddy Voice 2 GPS Rangefinder Review [2023]

Every golfer faces the challenge of judging distances accurately.

Experienced golfers know that estimating the right distance leads to choosing the correct club.

Lucky for you, technology has arisen to meet your needs in the form of rangefinders.

If you are interested in a quick breakdown of the types of golf rangefinders this Golfweek article does a really nice job explaining it.

Some rangefinders require you to hold the rangefinder up to your eye, which can be cumbersome.

For those who want something smaller which you can clip and play, there is the Golfbuddy Voice 2, a GPS rangefinder.

GolfBuddy Voice 2 is affordable and easy to use. This golfbuddy voice 2 review will tell you why.

Now, let’s dig into the specs and see what makes this rangefinder so sought after.

Golf Buddy Voice 2 Talking GPS Rangefinder, Long Lasting...
  • Accurate up to one yard
  • 40,000 preloaded courses

The Voice 2 GPS rangefinder is the second generation of the popular GolfBuddy Voice.

Simple and compact, the golfbuddy voice 2 golf gps/rangefinder uses your GPS location to display accurate distances.

It doesn’t require you to hold and range for distances like other rangefinders. Just clip it to your scorecard or golf bag and start swinging.

For a rangefinder under $100, we bet you’ll enjoy the GolfBuddy Voice 2 improved features.

GolfBuddy 2 Features

Size

The last any golfer wants is a clunky device to lug around and fiddle with while trying to concentrate on the course.

This device weighs 1.02 oz. and has the dimensions of 1.76 x 1.78 x 0.49″.

Being such a lightweight and compact rangefinder, you’ll be able to clip it to your belt, hat, golf bag, or pants without even noticing it.

Accuracy

The  golfbuddy 2 is accurate to within a yard. The moment you turn on the device, the satellites will find you anywhere on the course.

It will give you distances to the front, center, and back of the green.

Once on the green, you can switch to the dynamic green view.

This feature allows you to measure distances to multiple positions on the map as you try to determine where you want to land on the green.

This device not only measures your distance to the green but will also measure the distance of your shot.

Simplicity

Unlike the first version of the GolfBuddy Voice, the Voice 2 doesn’t require you to hold down any buttons to take measurements.

It has five buttons, two of them being for volume.

You can use the audio voice and listen to the readings without having to look down at the device as you line up for your next shot. You don’t  have to look or touch anything if you don’t feel like it.

Affordable

Golf rangefinders easily go for above $150. The Voice 2, for under $100, is a steal for the price.

Not only can the Voice 2 match any mid to high golf laser rangefinder out there, but you’ll keep your hands free and your mind focused on the course.

Voice over and display

It comes with the option for a male or female voice. If you don’t fancy the audio, no problem, you can turn the audio off and only use the display.

The display screen is 1” and easy to read. No unnecessary distractions, just the distances you want to see.

Preloaded courses

The golfbuddy gps now comes with 40,000 preloaded courses.

You don’t have to choose your course. The device automatically finds your location and syncs you to the course map.

Improved battery life

GolfBuddy improved the battery life in the Voice 2 with a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery.

It can last for at least 2 rounds per charge and up to 14 hours.

The Voice 2 doesn’t have the longest lasting battery for a GPS rangefinder, but the battery will last you long enough that if you forget to charge it between outings, you won’t have to worry about it dying on you while playing.

Additional accessories

The Voice 2 comes in blue, pink, or black, the choice of 11 languages, and is water-resistant.

It comes with a small clip on the back, but you can buy a belt clip or wristband separately, making it easy to wear the device while you play.

GolfBuddy also created an app you can connect your device to through bluetooth.

The app tracks your distance walked, calories burned, and the number of steps taken; it can also adjust the volume and display on the screen, as well as locate your device when you misplace it.

Alternatives to the GolfBuddy 2

Up to this point, this has only been a golfbuddy voice review.

Now we would like to take some time to list some alternatives to the GolfBuddy Voice 2.

We list a few other GPS rangefinders to show what you can get by spending a little more money.

For a more in-depth review of GPS rangefinders, check out our golf gps rangefinders review.

To show a different style of golf rangefinder, we list a few laser rangefinders.

You can watch the tutorial below that explains the differences between the two types of rangefinders, or you can read about it here.

Laser rangefinders shoot a laser beam that reflects off a target and then is detected by a sensor. The rangefinder measures the time it takes for the beam to return and converts that to a distance.

Bushnell Phantom (Black) Power Bundle with PlayBetter Portable USB Charger

Bushnell 368821 Phantom Golf GPS

The Bushnell Phantom is a bit more expensive than the Voice 2.

This particular bundle comes with a portable USB charger, so you won’t have to worry about forgetting to charge before you head out to the golf course.

It comes preloaded with 35,000 courses in over 30 countries.

Like the Voice 2, it automatically finds your location to give accurate distances and can find you anywhere on the course.

It also gives you front, center, and back readings of the green and tracks the distance of every shot for you.

The biggest difference between the Bushnell Phantom and the GolfBuddy Voice 2 is that it comes with a magnet and a holder clip, so you can either clip it to your belt or bag, or you can stick to your golf cart.

The Bushnell Golf APP allows you to get full-color aerial views of the course, flyovers of hole placements, tee times, score tracking, and distances. This APP is definitely more developed than the Golfbuddy APP.

Though being a little more expensive, the Bushnell Phantom GPS Rangefinder is still affordable and gives you a little more detailed view and capabilities.
