SilencerCo Radius Rangefinder Review [2023]

If you need to hit a target in the distance, you will need to know exactly how far away it is.

Only then will you be able to accurately hit that target.

While there are many ways you can do this, one tried and true method is using a laser rangefinder.

However, carrying around two pieces of equipment can be difficult, and using them can take up precious time.

For these reasons and more, SilencerCo decided to create a rangefinder that can be mounted onto your rifle.

There aren’t many rangefinders that are mountable on the market and the few that exist are quite expensive.

This is why many hunters were excited to get their hands on the SilencerCo Radius rail-mounted rangefinder.

In this SilencerCo Radius review, we’ll see if this rangefinder is all it’s cracked up to be.

Update: The SilencerCo Radius rangefinder is discontinued.

If you require a rail-mounted rangefinder then we recommend the UUQ Tactical Rifle Scope.

Details about this rifle scope can be found at the bottom of this page.

The SilencerCo Radius rangefinder is a weapons-mounted device that eliminates the need for using both hands when ranging and shooting a target.

No longer will you fumble around with different pieces of equipment, now you can focus solely on getting an accurate shot and save time.

The unit is compact, capable, and adaptable but may take some getting used to.

The best things about the SilencerCo Radius Rail-Mounted Rangefinder

Picatinny Compatible

The SilencerCo Radius rail-mounted rangefinder is compatible with  Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 rails.

This means you can mount the rangefinder vertically or horizontally.

It gives you the option of whether to mount the Radius rangefinder at the top, the left or right side of your rifle.

Choose the location carefully and choose the best spot to avoid possible optic interference.

To mount the rangefinder, lift the throw lever so it is in an open position and place the unit over the rail.

Once the unit is properly aligned with the rail, clamp the throw lever to hold the rangefinder in place and tighten the screws for a more secure hold.

When the unit is securely mounted, there should be no play between the unit and the rail.

Range

This SilencerCo rangefinder has a general range of 20 Yards 1,760 yards on reflective targets. However, this works best in a low light situation to that long distance.

In bright sunshine, you can probably range out to 1000 yards which is still great for any laser rangefinder much less a mountable rangefinder.

When you are reading to start ranging, press the Power button or remote Pressure Pad once.

However, for continuous ranging, press the Power button or remote Pressure Pad twice in quick succession.

Mode

The SilencerCo Radius comes with a continuous-range mode that tracks moving targets and gives you multiple readings with one range reading per second

Users are provided with an instant readout of the target using three separate range readings.

You get one primary reading which is the strongest and two secondary readings.

Combined the reading all eliminates interference from hazards such as trees, rocks, and other landscape features to give you an accurate reading.

You can also range objects using the single range mode.

Laser System

The SilencerCo Radius rangefinder utilizes both an infrared and visible laser system.

The laser beam is a Class 3R laser that is considered eye-safe.

The laser beam divergence is 0.5 mrad (1.75 MOA) by 1.85 mrad (6.35 MOA).

The visible laser is intended to aid the user in aligning the rangefinder with your scope’s reticle and not act as an aiming device.

To turn on the visible laser, simply press the button on the right at the bottom of the unit.

To adjust the visible laser location, use the dials to move the laser to a suitable position.

If you mount your rangefinder on the top of your rifle, then the dial closest to the display end of the rangefinder is for wind adjustment and the front dial is for elevation.

The purpose of these dials is to switch if you do mount the radius rangefinder to the side of your rifle.

Display

The user-configurable display panel on the SilencerCo Radius rangefinder can be set to the orientation of your choice.

All you have to do is loosen the two screws which require no tools and remove the panel and rotate it to your preferred orientation.

Afterward, tighten the screws and you’re done.

The display panel consists of two buttons, one that dims the screen and one that brightens the screen.

Note that the brightness level does not affect battery life in any way.

SilencerCo recommends that you use your rangefinder with the display panel connected to reduce damage to the electrical components of the rangefinder.

When ranging the Radius rangefinder displays three numbers.

The first is the strongest signal reading in large numbers which can be found to the far left of the screen.

The second-strongest is in small numbers and located in the upper center of the screen.

The third and weakest signal is in small numbers and is seen in the lower center of the screen.

The display panel gives you the range to the target, in yards or meters in a neon blue color for easy reading no matter the lighting condition.

Design

The SilencerCo rangefinder comes in highly durable and impact-resistant housing.

It is also waterproof with a rating of  IP67 which means it can survive in water measuring one meter deep for half of an hour without sustaining any damage.

IP67 also means that the unit is dust-resistant as well.

Remote Pressure Pad

One of the cool features of the SilencerCo Radius is the pressure pad for remote operation.

This feature is optional and can come in handy if you’re worried about messing up your rifle’s position.

If you do decide to use the pressure pad, plug the wire into the side of the rangefinder and run it along the side of the rail.

This way the wire does not cause any interference when ranging to targets.

The company has included Velcro® style loop patches which makes it easier to secure the pad to the rangefinder.

Battery

The SilencerCo Radius rangefinder is powered by 2 CR123A Lithium-Ion batteries that are included with purchase.

Interestingly enough, the rangefinder can work with rechargeable batteries as well and the battery compartment is separate from the main unit.

Both compartments are waterproof and submersible to 1 meter but moisture can get into the battery compartment when changing the batteries.

Having the units separate protects the laser mechanism if the battery compartment becomes compromised in any way.

This SilencerCo Radius rangefinder powers down after 30 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery life and can run in continuous scan mode for up to 12 hours.

When it’s time to replace the battery, pull the rubber cover up and tug on the strap to pop the batteries out.

Follow the guide on the inside of the battery compartment to insert the battery in the correct position and replace the rubber cover when you’re done.

Warranty

The SilencerCo Radius rail-mounted rangefinder comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

This warranty covers repair, service, and replacement of damaged products caused by normal use for life.

It is only done free of charge if the repairs and servicing and replacement are done at or from a SilencerCo facility.

Pros: Radius Rangefinder

Rail-mounted

The best thing about the Radius rangefinder is the fact that it can be mounted on to your rifle.

Mount it on the top or side of your rifle and save you time instead of juggling two devices that can give your target a chance to escape.

Accurate

Equipped with a Class 3R eye-safe laser, the SilencerCo rangefinder is extremely accurate and ranges objects from 20 to 1720 yards.

Adjustable Display

The display panel on the radius rangefinder is fully adjustable.

Set the panel to your desired orientation and use the two buttons to dim or brighten the screen.

Remote Pressure Pad

For those moments where you are afraid that your hand will mess up your rifle’s position, you can choose to use the remote pressure Pad that comes with this unit.

Simply plug it in and run the wire where it will not cause interference with the normal operation of the rangefinder.

Tough

The SilencerCo Radius rangefinder is water-proof, dust-proof, and shock-proof to tackle the harsh hunting environment.

Cons: Radius Rangefinder

Heavy

One of the disadvantages of the SilencerCo Radius is its weight.

Weighing in at 18.2 oz, it can be considered a heavy rangefinder and can be hard to carry on hunting trips where you have to hike long distances.

Hard to set up

Some users have complained that the rangefinder takes a long time to set up before ranging targets.

No magnification

Unlike other laser rangefinders, SilencerCo Radius does not come with any magnification power.
